Welcome To Dosan's Website
This is the official website for DoSan Tae Kwon Do Gym located on Foothill Blvd. in La Canada. This DoSan is run by Master Shinn, with two full-time instructors teaching the classes. Here, you will find rates, our mission statement, contact information, the My Goal is Black Belt handbook in case yours is lost, and much much more. Taekwondo is great for weight loss, stress relief, self defense, competitive training, and more. What's New in the DoSan Taekwondo Community?

Here is what's going on in the Do San Tae Kwon Do community:

1) On October 4th of last year, we had a demonstration at the Montrose Oktoberfest.  It was successful, so be sure to congratulate the instructors and participants.  Three pictures have been uploaded of this demonstration.  Soon, a video will become available for purchase.

2) The next test will be the 25th of March. Adults and white belts, sometimes there is a different testing schedule for you. If you have been recommended, pick up an application from an instructor or Master Shinn. If you still do not have your certificate or belt from last test, ask for it when you return to class.

3)  Remember, you MUST submit a current report card along with your promotion test application if you want to test.

4) The Special Gumdo classes are here!  They are Monday and Friday at 4:00 PM. 

5) If you are unsure on your forms, Master Shinn has DVDs of all the forms available for sale.  They include all Pawlgue forms, all Taegook forms, and several black belt forms as well.  Price: $80.

Curriculum


Our unique curriculum has been approved by several organizations including the United States Taekwondo Union (USTU).  We incorporate several things that make our gym ulike any other.  Before every class, students are enouraged to come a few minutes early and warm up.  As soon as class starts, so does stretching.  Flexability is key to faster, higher kicks, and will greatly improve your technique in all ares of the martial art.  After stretching, we will warm up furthur by taking some laps around the gym, then all the students line back up for kicking practice.  We go through each kick pertinent to the belt level of each individual.  We take time to help each student with technique depending on skill level.  Then, depending on the day, the class will either split into pairs for sparring, or split into larger groups for poomse practice.  At Dosan Taekwondo, we believe in tradition, and therefore practice the Pawlgue forms, as opposed to the Taegook forms, the newer, more modern commodity.  In sparring, we usually concentrate on tournament sparring and strategy, but we do take time and learn practical self-defense.  The bulk of class time is taken by either forms or sparring.  After our main activity, we usually condition for five to fifteen minutes.  These intense, short workouts can help you build muscle and lose weight fast.  Sometimes, instead of conditioning, we will work on the students' knowledge of Taekwondo philosophy.  We encourage meditation before and after class because we cannot take the time during class.  After class, the students are welcome to stay and practice as long as they do not distract or interfere with the next class.  The instructors lead most of the class, but the senior student, to build leadership skills, is given control of the class for some parts, like stretching.  Our curriculum is unique to Dosan, for no one else incorporates the volume of conditioning, sparring, forms, and philosophyin which we take pride.

Reasons to take Tae Kwon Do

There are many reasons to take Tae Kwon Do. We offer classes anywhere from one to six times per week.
1) Competitive training. DoSan is a great place for competitive training. We train our students for tournaments if they want to go.
2) Stress Relief. Many people lead high-stress lives. Stress Relief is another popular reason people come. A few intense workouts per week is a great method of stress relief.
3) Weight loss. For those who think they would like to lose weight and build muscle, Taekwondo is the perfect thing. Our fat-burning and muscle-building workouts can really do the trick and help you lose weight.
4) Self-defense. Tae Kwon Do is a great way to learn self defense. In addition to learning sparring, or competition fighting, you will also learn moves to help you in case of an assault in real life situations.
5) Confidence/ Leadership.  Our unique curriculum allows the senior student to take control of the class for certain activities, like stretching.  This helps our students build confidence and leadership skills.
6)Discipline.  Being a traditional Tae Kwon Do school, our main emphasis is on respect.  The students bow to Master Shinn, the instructors, and all students senior to him/herself as a sign of respect.  Also, the use of "sir" and "ma'am" to not only the student's Master, instructors, but also peers and parents.  This practice really builds respect not only in the gym, but it also carries on into the home.


Rates
We at Dosan Tae Kwon Do have several payment options open. Our rates change constantly due to the fact that we have various specials at different times. Call for the current deal. You may purchase private lessons also. Starting soon are specialized classes focusing either on Gumdo (Korean sword martial art), or on self defense.
